World Expo, a timeless tradition since 1851, took centre stage in Dubai, and it was a spectacle like no other. This grand gathering, though delayed by 12 months, marked the largest global congregation since pre-pandemic times.

At the heart of this monumental event was the UK Pavilion, a beacon of architectural brilliance that drew over 5,000 visitors daily. Its iconic design made it the most photographed structure on the expansive Expo campus.

Our role was to work directly with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and Brey Leino Events to capture the essence of this unforgettable six-month extravaganza in Dubai. Our mission: to document and showcase the best of the UK, spanning people, places, technology, film, sport, music, food, and fashion, with raw, unfiltered emotion. Our work was shared across various UK Government social media accounts and in the UK and international press to attract visitors to the pavilion. It will also help encourage visitors to visit the pavilion at future World Expos. We also collaborated closely with the Welsh Government to document their events held within the pavilion.

The UK Pavilion played host to a diverse array of events, from glamorous galas and art exhibitions to intimate meetings and panel discussions. Over the course of six months, this remarkable venue became the backdrop for a rich tapestry of experiences. Dignitaries, royals, athletes, innovators, and businesses from around the world graced the UK Pavilion, where they celebrated British innovation, artistry, creativity, and solutions to global challenges.

With Expo 2020 Dubai boasting 192 national pavilions and countless attractions, the UK Pavilion had its moment to shine, showcasing the nation’s best in sport, creativity, innovation, and culture. The program featured a mesmerizing line-up of live events, from classical concerts and theatre productions to poetry recitals and music festivals. Notable figures, including HRH Prince William, shared insights alongside sporting stars, dignitaries, and emerging talents from the UK’s vibrant arts and music scenes.

A special highlight was the Commonwealth Queen’s Baton Relay, a precursor to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Members of the armed forces and UK athletes, such as Ed Clancy OBE and Tessa Sanderson CBE, proudly carried the baton, accompanied by the Coldstream Guards marching band. C.S Visuals had the honour of being the designated team to capture this remarkable event in all its glory.

For the UK National Day, the Pavilion made history by taking over the entire Expo campus for a day. It featured 48 distinct events across 8 venues, a monumental endeavour that our dedicated team captured in its entirety. From on-site editors to a skilled photography and film crew, we left no moment uncaptured.

In tandem with capturing the main UK Pavilion events, we were also fortunate to document partner events and work directly with prominent entities, including the Royal College of Art, Rolls Royce, Shell, and Cardiff University, among others.
